Technical Areas That I Have Learnt So Far

Technical Areas That I Have Learnt

I have developed my filmmaking skills, by creating a short movie opening

I used Final Cut Pro to learn more editing skills that have really been useful

I know how to get the right sound when filming and editing, so the persons voice is heard and that the sound playing on top adds extra effect

When editing I know how to make it look seamless and neat so that the edit is not obvious to the viewer

I have learnt to analyse any piece of footage whether it is TV Drama or my own work

I know how to add a voice over over my footage

I know how to use Garageband effectively so that i can make my own sounds and add it to my work

I am good at using camtasia to create short clips to show how i am progressing, and with camtatsia many media products can be made

Technical Skills Developed During AS Year

Technical Skills Developed During AS Year

During AS I developed many technical skills starting from using the camera and how to use the equipment to then using the hard drive to import all my footage filmed from the memory card to then importing it all into the hard drive. At the beginning of AS I was unable to use the camera and i was not confident but by the end of the year I was very confident and I enjoyed filming.

Another way I developed is during editing my work using Final Cut Pro, here I developed many skills such as adding special effects and putting soundtracks and voice overs over the recorded footage. As well as cutting different scenes. This will help me for when we will be making our music video as I will be able to add these skills in the music video.

During AS we were taught different shot types and editing such as match cuts which then helped me in my teen opening as I was able to put this into practise which was very clean and me and my group where happy with the shot as well as the feedback received.

For the blogs I was able to used different formats such as Prezzi,Camtasia, and Mural.ly and embedding it onto the blog to show the examiner the different formats used to help represent my work.

AS Music Video Lesson Recap

During the end of AS we had a lesson where we learnt about what we will be leaning/ expected to do during A2. We learnt about the different conventions found in music videos and how they are applied to music videos. We looked at many different music videos to see if all the convention were applied and what each convention represents about the artist and the video it self.

We looked at Little Mix-'Wings' and how they are represented, one way this was shown was through mise en scene. For example one of the members in the group was seen wearing dungarees and had beat boxes in the background while another  member had a flowery head band representing a more hippy style. This is very common in pop groups as each member in the group is different from one another they are shown in a different style though mise en scene.

Me and my partner decided to show analysis Labrinth ft Tinie Tempa-'Earthquake' as we thought this video represents all conventions found in music videos.

Andrew Goodwin’s Theory on Music

Andrew Goodwin’s Theory on Music – Main Points

·      Pop videos are made around songs, and they do not have a traditional narrative structure
·      Pop videos makes the singer appear to be a narrator and character
·      The singer may look into the camera directly, to try and involve the audience

Pop videos do ‘Pop’ because there is quite a lot of repetition in the video, such as repetition of the images and lyrics. Also the audience will be aware of the genre by the rhythm of the song. The song would also have a wide audience and as its Popular may appear on the TV and radio many times, therefore repeating itself, and keeping the audience aware of that song.

Leona Lewis – Bleeding Love (Illustration)

Has a video where she is expressing her feelings and is very emotional, also as she sings in the video, there is drama happening between the actors.

Rihanna – What Now (Amplification)
In the song she is talking about a boy, but in the video she is isolated and is the only character in the video doing extreme movements, Adding greater meaning to the lyrics.

Lady Gaga – Bad Romance (Disjuncture)
In the song Lady Gaga is singing about a bad romance, but in the video it does not relate at all and she is dancing in crazy costumes, which has nothing to do with a relationship.
