30/11/2014 - what is left to be done

What is left to be done

There is a week left before the deadline and I have quite a lot to do. As the main editor in our group I have spent more time editing and less time blogging. Therefore I need to spend some time outside of college to blog. We also have a few shots left that we need to film as we originally planned to do it on Saturday 28th of November but we had technical difficulties with the camera and so we couldn't film. we plan to spend Monday doing these last shots and the rest of the week adding the final touch ups to the music video like Colour correcting and Smooth-cam and getting last minute opinions so we can make any changes and uploading our final project.

Our Form of communication

We made a group chat on Whatsapp which is what we used to stay in touch with each other. In the group we talked about how we would travel to our locations. During the pitch planning we talked about what we should say and what our blog posts should contain. We also kept in touch with each other all throughout production and editing

Editing

Editing the first rough cut of the music video

editing the first rough cut where we had a studio scene

we had way to many shots as we went out to film many times it was only later that we realised that we have plenty of good shots that we were ignoring

the editing of the new shots we decided that we didnt want a studio scene as it looks to static and does not match the theme of the rest of the locations so we changed it to a tunnel scene in the hear of east london. Bow.

the last shots are of the artist not singing

these are the shots that we are removing

this cetain shjot needs to be 'flopped' as it is upside down and it can confuse the audience

i will be slowing down the speed in some shots

Feedback From Our Target Audience

After looking at our video our audience said the liked the different shot types as we had mid shots and 360 shots. The shot they liked the most was the Dutch tilt as the artist performance was on point as the emotion was conveyed.
The jump cuts were very effective and the artist performance was very good.
The scene that was enjoyed by everyone was the scene at Granary Square as during the pitch everyone thought that it would be difficult to show the lights at the fountain during the evening. However we were able to shot the scene and the lighting was very clear.

Improvements

In our video some of the scenes the mise en scene is different in terms of the artists hairstyle as there is a mix of some scenes with curly hair and others with straight hair.
More close ups are needed.
The lip sync was slightly off and use smooth cam to smooth out the shots as some of the shots are shaky and unclear.
There are some shots were the camera is shaking which needs to be cut out before the shake in the final video.

How Vernallis Theory Fits Our Music Video

Skills Development

How Goodwins Theory Fits Our Music Video

Goodwins theory consists of three types of relations between songs and videos:
-Illustration: where the story tells the story of the lyric.
-Amplification:when the videos introduce new meanings that do not contradict with the lyrics but add layers of meaning.
-Disjuncture: this is where there is little connection between the lyric and video or where the video contradicts the lyric.

In our video we have amplification this is shown through a dutch tilt the artist on screen is seen clenching her fist and her eyes are closed this shows the emotion which goes with the lyric as she sings about needing her boyfriend.

We also have disjuncture at the end of the video when the chorus is playing the second time the artist is seen walking aimlessly around the road, here she doesn't sing the lyrics.

Filming-Tunnel Scene

Filming-Tunnel Scene

During editing we realised that some of our shots the camera was very static, the main shots that were very static were the chorus and bedroom scenes so we decided to day we would film the chorus scene today.
When we looked at the shots of the chorus scene not only was the camera static but as we filmed in a studio it was very tight space which did not help as we need space so we could use tracking shots to show the items which the artist would be throwing onto the floor.
So we decided on a new location which was a tunnel in Bow Church, here we were able to film as it was an ideal spot as it was very isolated which went with the theme of the song. We made sure to more the camera at all times and followed Carol Vernallis theory of having close ups and slow motion in the shots. Using the tunnel as one of our location was very important as there was wide space and it was great for using tracking shots and close ups.

Editing- Day 1

Editing- Day 1

In todays lesson we started the editing process. we first imported all of our footage from the memory cards onto our hard drive. To make it easy for use we then went through each clip and chose which ones we thought were best so when it came to editing we would not be wasting time looking through each footage. We used Final Cut Pro to edited our video. By the end of the lesson we managed place in all the base tracks with the original song and mark in all the beats which we hoped to achieve by the end of the lesson. However all though we have started editing we still have editing to do such as choosing the order of scenes and adding in slow motion and transitions. We also need to re shot the chorus scene as the was no camera movement and the footage was very static. We hope to film the chorus by the end of next lesson.
